Miami University Clinical Psychology Program

ADMISSIONS

To be admitted to the graduate program in clinical psychology, applicants must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and a minimum 3.0 grade point average for the last two undergraduate years. Undergraduate preparation should include a background in psychology, at least one course in mathematics, statistics, and one laboratory course in psychology. Demonstrated ability and experience in research and activities related to clinical psychology are also considered very important.

Although most students enter the program after finishing a bachelor's degree, the department does admit students who have completed a master's degree from another program. A number of successful graduates of the program have entered after having worked in other fields. Admission policies are based on the expectation that all students will pursue the doctoral degree. Applications will not be considered from persons wishing only to proceed as far as the Master's degree. Also, the department does not ordinarily admit students on a "part-time" or "continuing graduate student basis." All programs of study begin in the fall semester.

Thus, in the course of academic or professional activities (including classes and clinical supervision), students are likely to be asked to disclose information about themselves. At other times, students are likely to be asked to reflect on their personal experiences and reveal their reactions, even if the experience itself is not disclosed.
