Admissions

To apply for admission, please submit:

To the Graduate School (address below): (By December 1st)

There are two ways to submit your application to the Graduate School:

1. Download the application in pdf format and mail to the graduate school along with a check, or

2. Electronically through Collegenet. Payment can be made with either a credit card or electronic check.

Click here for the graduate school application.

As with hard copy applications, there are no refunds. Official copies of all college and graduate transcripts should be sent to the Graduate School.

To the Psychology Department (address below): (By December 1st)

There are several additional pieces of information that you should submit in a single envelope directly to the psychology department. A checklist has been developed that will provide you with the list of items that should be submitted in the envelope. This checklist must be accompanied with your materials.

Materials to be provided to the Psychology Department along with the checklist:

1. Specify the research area in which you are interested.

2. Faculty Advisor(s) with whom you would wish to work.

3. A personal statement. A brief 2-page statement explaining why you are interested in doctoral studies in clinical psychology.

4. Three letters of recommendation from faculty who are familiar with your work and preparation for graduate studies. Ask your recommenders to write their letters on their own letterhead and give the recommendation to you in a sealed envelope with their signature on the flap. The Department does not have a separate recommendation form. You should list the names of your recommenders on the checklist.

5. Copies of your application to the graduate school, unofficial transcripts (Official transcripts must be mailed to the graduate school), your vitae or resume, and your unofficial GRE scores. An official copy of your GRE Scores should be sent to Miami University (Verbal, Quantitative and Analytic Writing) from ETS. The psychology subject test is not required. Final action on your application will not be taken until we receive the official scores from the Educational Testing Service.

All of the materials submitted by applicants are considered by a committee composed of clinical faculty members and clinical graduate students, who rank applicants according to their foundation in clinical psychology and the match of their interests and background with the requirements and resources of the program.

Typically in February, the clinical faculty invite their top applicants to visit the department prior to making offers for admission. (Visits to the department are not otherwise scheduled by the clinical program.) After this visit to the program, offers are extended to applicants. Final decisions and commitments must be made by April 15th, and all applicants will be notified of departmental action after this date.
