The communications section staffs the dispatch center where all calls for
police, fire, and medical service are initially received and processed.
Dispatchers answer both 9-1-1 calls and non-emergency calls, dispatch
personnel, process information for police officers in the field, enter and
retrieve information from three different computer databases, monitor
teletypes and radio traffic from adjacent police agencies, monitor various
alarm systems, and assist citizens who appear at the station.
The department employs two full-time dispatchers for each of
the three patrol shifts:
First Watch (7:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.)
Second Watch (3:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m.)
Third Watch (11:00 p.m. - 7:00 a.m.)
