The Miami University Police is comprised of 29 full-time, sworn police officers who are commissioned by the State
of Ohio to serve and protect the university community. In addition, the department also employs 6 full-time police
dispatchers, and 4 full-time clerical support staff. Student aides are employed to perform a variety of
administrative support tasks in the police communications office, the records office, and the administrative offices.
The University Police is organized into 4 sections, as listed below. Click on a section for more information, and
to meet some of the people who work in that area.
Customer Service:
The commitment of recognizing, acknowledging, and fulfilling your customer’s implied and expressed needs.
Internal Customer:
Those people within your organization or team that you work with to perform your job.
External Customer:
Those people outside your organization or team that want, request, or witness your services.
Core Value Customer Service:
The type of service that focuses on the immediate expressed problem for which the customer called you.
Added Value “Wow” Customer Service:
The type of service that makes the customer feel good and appreciated. It addresses the total customer and seeks to meet their needs even when they are not expressed.

For more than 100 years the Miami University Police Department has been building a legacy serving the students, faculty, and staff of Miami University. That is a tradition of which we are very proud. It is a tradition that we build on every day. When the community members of Miami University call us they are not having a good day. What they find when we arrive is that we are not just there to solve their immediate emergency; we are there to deliver excellent “WOW” customer service.
