General Information | Lost & Found

The Miami University Police Department no longer serves as a central colletion point for all found items. Since most people check first at the location where they believe they may have misplaced their property, each university department or office is responsible for maintaining most of the items found in or around its buildings.

The police department continues to provide lost and found services for property considered "big ticket items". This includes bank cards, cash, cellular telephones, checkbooks, computers, electronics and other items of significant value. Anyone wanting to turn over such items should call the police department Communications Center at (513) 529.2222 to arrange for a police officer to pick up the property.

Miami University identification cards should be sent directly to the ID Office at 119 Campus Avenue Building (CAB). University keys (including all keys on the ring or key tab) should be sent to the Physical Facilities Office at the Cole Service Building.

On occasion, keys and eyeglasses are still turned in at the Police Services Center. These items are stored in the reception area and may be viewed from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through friday.

Any questions pertaining to the safeguarding or disposal of found property may be referred to Det. Sgt. Jim Bechtolt at (513) 529.1449. The Miami University Police also continue to operate the Lost & Found message center at (513) 529.8135.
