Guidelines for Administration
The Department of Human Resources administers this fund to assist departments in providing job related training and educational opportunities for classified support staff. This fund is available for on/off-campus programs such as training, workshops, classes, seminars, conferences, and professional development events. At the time of registration, the employee’s department is responsible for the entire registration fee and other approved, related costs.

Matching funds for on/off-campus events will be awarded in the following manner and under the limits stated below:

1. The Department of Human Resources will grant up to $100 in matching funds per classified employee, per fiscal year (providing that funds are available).

2. The workshop, class, or seminar event for which the grant is sought must relate to either improved performance on the job currently held or to the employee’s career prospects within the University.

3. The employee (or the employee’s supervisor) may inquire about the availability of funds prior to registering for the program (through a memo, e-mail, or a telephone call).

4. Matching funds may be requested for more than one training opportunity, per employee, per fiscal year, not to exceed the $100 limit. Continuation of awarding matching funds for more than one training opportunity per employee, per fiscal year, will be contingent upon availability of funds.

5. Grant requests will be date stamped upon receipt in the Department of Human Resources. As the Training and Development Fund diminishes over the (fiscal) year, date of receipt may determine which department(s) will be awarded the training grant(s).

6. Employees will be paid for hours they would normally be scheduled to work on the day of the event (workshop, seminar, etc.); no overtime may be earned as a result of attendance at the event.

7. Upon request and approval of the matching funds, the Department of Human Resources will reimburse the requesting department for one half of the total cost of the registration fee and travel expense, not to exceed the $100 limit per employee, per fiscal year.

8. Upon completion of the program, the employee’s department must finalize the request by providing the following information:

  • Certificate of completion or other verification that the employee has completed the program, and
  • Miami University's budget sheet print out showing transfer from account, and
  • Copy of program description (i.e., brochure describing workshop, class, or seminar).
9. Upon receiving the appropriate documentation (as described above) and providing that the funds are available, the Department of Human Resources will authorize a transfer of funds to the account charged on the LPO or requisition unless otherwise instructed.
