OUR MISSION
The mission of Miami University's Employee Health & Well-Being is to positively influence the health and well-being of University employees by promoting purposeful and healthy living within a caring culture and community.
DESCRIPTION
Employee Health & Well-Being takes a holistic approach in that our programs and activities focus on the whole person. Our goal is to offer a vareity of health and well-being activities, events, and experiences that not only prevent and reduce risk for lifstlye related diseases and conditions but also enhance quality of life.
RATIONALE
Employee health and well-being is good business. Studies typically show that a well-designed, well-implemented, science- and evidence-based employee health and well-being program is an investment in financial and human capital, with a long-term return on investment (ROI) being two to three times greater than the program costs because:
- Moderate to high health risk employees use more health care dollars than low risk
- Mental health factors, such as depression and stress, are more costly when compared to traditional risk factors, such as being overweight and lack of exercise
- Stress and personal family issues are the most significant factors affecting employee productivity and healthy living choices
- Employees who have access to on-site fitness facilities report higher productivity and experience fewer disability absences
- Individuals with less health risks are more engaged (productive) at work
- Employee morale and retention improves
TARGETED OUTCOMES
- Enhance employee health status via healthy living (e.g., healthy behaviors)
- Reduce health care costs or at the very least minimize increasing costs
- Enhance employee productivity by decreasing:
- absenteeism
- disability
- worker's compensation
- presenteeism (on the job engagement)
- Enhance employee morale and job satisfaction
- Enhance employee recruitment and retention
- Enhance employee energy and vitality
ELIGIBILITY
In general, present employees are eligible to participate; however, as Employee Health & Well-Being grows we envision that some programs and activities will be offered to spouses and retirees. In some cases, programs will be open to all university employees. We suggest you call our office at (513) 529-EHWB(3492) to verify your eligibility to participate in specific programs as they become available.
COST
Because Health & Well-Being programs are employee benefits, programming is offered presently offerered at little to no cost. We will continue to do our best to maintain this philosophy. However, some programs, such as certain types of health screenings, may require a fee on the part of the employee. In addition, some programs, such as smoking cessation classes, have been subsidized by Health & Well-Being if the employee meets a certain pre-determined class attendance criteria. If not met, the employee is responsible for some or all of the class fee via payroll deduction.
