Oxford Caregivers Support Groups
Offered through: Oxford Seniors Center
Registration is NOT required for support group participation.
The goal of the Oxford Caregivers Support Groups is to support people caring for those with long-term chronic and/or progressive illnesses such as: Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, diabetes, stroke, multiple sclerosis, neurological disorders, or any situation where you “feel like a caregiver.”
This facilitated caregivers support group offers a safe confidential environment, a group of caregivers who listen to each other and share mutual concerns, and referral to other useful resources. This group does not provide advice, but practical suggestions for solving specific caregiving problems. Discussion topics typically include coping skills, stress, communication, isolation, physical problems, practical ways to improve care, and topics that are important to the group.
Support Groups are held at the Oxford Senior Center, located at 922 Tollgate Drive, Oxford, Ohio 45056 and are held on the following days and times:
Caregivers Support Group: meets on the last Wednesday of the month @ 1:15pm
Parkinson's Disease Support Group: meets the 2nd Tuesday of the month @ 10am

Mindfulness is a state of awareness. It is paying attention in a particular way, with intention, in the moment and participating non-judgmentally. Mindfulness does not have to be achieved through meditation, although meditation is one way to practice mindfulness. Mindfulness is not a relaxation exercise, although one may feel relaxed when engaging in mindfulness practice. Mindfulness can be practiced during daily activities, such as driving, eating, washing dishes, cleaning, taking a shower, listening to music, or in moments of free time. Mindfulness exercises may also be practiced when feeling difficult emotions, such as anger or sadness.
Future sessions are TBA.

Lactation Station Information
Congratulations on the new addition to your family! As a working mother, you have additional things to consider when returning to work. Miami University wants to help make your transition back to work a positive one. The university is in the process of establishing several publicly available lactation stations for breastfeeding mothers. In the meantime, please consider using your private office for lactation purposes. If you do not have a private office or do not believe that your office affords sufficient privacy, please contact Human Resources (529-3131) or the Academic Personnel Office (529-6724). They will contact your supervisor to make arrangements for a convenient and private (non-bathroom) lactation area and arrange for appropriate breaks.
Click here for more information about how breastfeeding breaks are now required under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
