SATSS & AFSCME
CLASSIFICATION PLAN
In 1997, the University introduced a broadbanding classification
plan for SATSS and AFSCME employees. The goal was to create and maintain a program that is flexible and
emphasizes skill development and performance. The first step, in 1997, was to implement the pay
zones and titles, and update some of our
policies.
In recognition of outstanding contributions of staff, the university implemented the Miami PRIDE Award program in February, 2008. The Miami PRIDE Award program is an acronym for Performance Resulting In Distinguished Excellence and was established to formally recognize staff achievements.
The Advisory
Committee on Classified Staff Pay Zone Minimums
was formed in October 2003. The committee's charge was
to make recommendations regarding increases to the pay
zone minimums. The recommendations were based upon market
data and analysis. In March 2004 the pay
zone minimums (2004) were adjusted again. The committee made recommendations once again in 2006 with pay zone minimums (2006/2007) adjusted effective 4/22/06 and 3/10/07.
It is important to note that Miami's Classification
and Pay Program for classified staff is "a work in progress". We intend to periodically review, update and
enhance the program.
