Applying

There is a two-pronged application process:

1. The forms from the Graduate School as well as official transcripts, GRE scores, and application fee are to be returned to the Graduate School. For the forms and application information online, follow this link to the Graduate School. International students should follow this link for an application form and application information.

2. The Department of Philosophy requires for its own use: (a) a cover letter of application, (b) a written statement of purpose giving reasons for pursuing an advanced degree in philosophy in our program, (c) a sample of the applicants philosophical writing, and (d) three letters of recommendation. The cover letter, the statement of purpose, and the writing sample should be sent in a single package to Professor Elaine Miller, Director of Graduate Studies, Department of Philosophy, Miami University, Oxford, OH 45056.  The letters of recommendation should also be sent in this package, in sealed envelopes that have been signed across the back by the recommender.

You may have your letters of recommendation sent either by mail or electronically, but you do not need to do both.

February 1 is the deadline for completed applications to be in our hands for anyone who wishes to be considered for a graduate assistantship.
