Bioethics, Ethics, Political Philosophy, Justice and Health Care
B.A., Allegheny; M.A., University of Chicago; Ph.D., University of Washington
I teach and write in the areas of ethics and political philosophy, most particularly philosophical concerns in death and dying, medical ethics, and issues of justice and health care. Increasingly, I am concerned with traditional and contemporary views on the value of life, both human and that of animals. My earlier work is best captured by Confronting Death (Indiana University Press, 1988); my later, by a book in progress, Valuing Life and Choosing Death.
