Philosophy and the Miami Plan for Liberal Education
Three hours of the Fine Arts, Humanities section (specifically, the
Humanities subsection) of the Miami Plan Foundation Course requirement
can be fulfilled by Philosophy
101: Knowledge of World, God, and Morality, Philosophy 103: Society
and the Individual, Philosophy 104: Purpose or Chance in the Universe,
or Philosophy 105: Theories of Human Nature.
PHL 106: Thought and Culture of
India (4 credits) can be used to fulfill the World Cultures requirement
of the Miami Plan.
The three hour Foundation Course requirement in the Mathematics,
Formal Reasoning, Technology section of the Miami Plan can be fulfilled
by taking Philosophy 273: Formal Logic.
Additionally, the Philosophy Department offers various Thematic
Sequences which may be taken in fulfillment of the Miami Plan Thematic Sequence
requirement. Thematic Sequences are comprised of three courses. Currently
available sequences are: Reasoning, Metaphysics and Epistemology,
Ethics in Health Care, Applied Ethics, Ethical Theory and the Experience
of Values, and Formal Logic (which has courses from two other departments).
Philosophy and the College of Arts and Science Requirement
The College of Arts and Science CAS-B requirement is fulfilled in
part by any philosophy course except PHL 273 (Formal Logic) and PHL
373 (Symbolic Logic). The CAS-F requirement is fulfilled by either
of those two logic courses.
