About Us
Our Mission
The Miami University Partnership Office cultivates and extends school/university partnerships; grows partnerships between Miami and community/social service agencies; and connects faculty, staff, and students in partnerships across campuses.
The Partnership Office:
- Grows out of successes in creating lasting, meaningful partnerships with local school districts, especially with our neighbor and friend the Talawanda School District.
- Seeks to engage area school districts, teachers, students, and citizens in educational activities that draw us closer together, create more collaborative and democratic relationships, and yield a stronger citizenry.
- Cultivates community partnerships in order to draw on the strengths and possibilities of local and regional agencies for creating more just, equitable, and meaningful lives for citizens.
- Understands the resources embedded in the Miami faculty and staff and works to connect people/projects in order to advance knowledge and community.
- Extends opportunities for service and scholarship, opening the doors to civic action and to the discovery of new knowledge.
The Miami University’s Partnership Office was founded in 2005. The office developed out of foundational work done between Miami University and Talawanda Schools over a five-year period beginning in 2001, when Miami and Talawanda entered into a formal partnership agreement (Talawanda-Miami University Partnership Agreement July 16 2001_0.pdf) The Talawanda-Miami Partnership now falls under the umbrella of the Miami University Partnership Office, maintaining its own budget and organizational structure (outlined in this website). The Partnership Office oversees the budget and staffing, programming and planning for the Talawanda-Miami Partnership. The Talawanda-Miami Partnership is the office’s flagship, constituting its main area of commitment and energy.
The Partnership Office recognizes the fundamental importance of the Talawanda-Miami Partnership in its work, but is also committed to developing partnerships with other school districts, social service agencies, and community organizations.
Day-to-day operations of the Partnership Office fall under the general direction of the Dean of the School of Education, Health and Society. The Office maintains a budget separate from the Talawanda-Miami Partnership.
