Writing Assessment and Evaluation
OWP writing assessment workshops train teachers to use writing assessment as an instructional tool. They provide practical classroom strategies for evaluating student writing and improving student learning. Depending on the needs of the district, the focus can either be on formative or summative classroom assessment (i.e. content reading/writing strategies, short cycle assessments, rubrics or portfolios). Teachers consistently rank these workshops as excellent for translating student writing skills into success on state-required tests.

Constructed Response Assessment Workshop
OWP will bring an experienced leader to your school to give teachers at varying grade levels an overview of standards, rubrics, and current state requirements and testing. Teachers in grades 4-10 will be trained in scoring short answer and extended response items for Ohio's achievement or graduation tests. This workshop will help teachers better understand the expectations of state testing, grade local tests, and incorporate writing strategies into the classroom.
OAT/OGT Writing Assessment Workshop
OWP will bring an experienced leader to your school to simulate the evaluation process used for the 4th, 7th, or 10th grade state writing test. Teachers will calibrate using the state rubric and an anchor packet of student writing followed by a grading session.
OWP can provide testing materials for your students, and your teachers will administer the test. Typically the OAT assessments are one-day and OGT assessments are two-days. After the OGT assessment, OWP will compile the results and provide data for your school.
