OWP Gets Measurable Results

External evaluations, funded by the US Department of Education for the National Writing Project, found the following from teachers attending the OWP Teaching of Writing workshop 2007:

•100% considered the overall quality of the workshop very good or excellent
•100% felt the quality of the workshop better than other professional activities
•100% felt they would be able to use and apply what they learned in the four-week      workshop in their classrooms
•100% felt the workshop contributed greatly to their teaching of writing and to improved writing skills for their students

“In studies with comparison groups, students with Writing Project teachers show statistically significant gains in writing performance in every area studied, including quality of ideas, organization, voice, and use of conventions in writing. ”
