Welcome to the Ohio Writing Project

The Ohio Writing Project (OWP), located in the English Department of Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, is one of the oldest sites of the prestigious National Writing Project (NWP).  The NWP, founded at Berkeley in 1973, is devoted to improving the teaching of writing and learning from kindergarten through college and has been named one of the most cost-efficient, effective professional development programs in the history of our country.

Founded in 1980, Miami’s Ohio Writing Project has offered workshops and inservice to over 100,000 K-12 teachers. Miami’s Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) in English, overseen and offered exclusively through the OWP, has graduated nearly 300 teachers since its inception in 2002 and focuses on the best of contemporary classroom practice and inquiry. Currently celebrating its 33rd year, the OWP draws teachers from all over southwest Ohio and celebrates the professionalism, expertise, and talent of our state’s educators.
