Survey Assistance
The Office of Institutional Research provides assistance to individuals, departments, and offices who are:
1) conducting surveys of Miami University students, faculty or staff for research or assessment purposes.
2) seeking data to complete external surveys about their department or program (e.g., surveys from professional associations or college guidebooks).
Surveys of Miami University Students, Faculty or Staff
If you are conducting research or assessment at Miami University, the Office of Institutional Research can assist you by identifying and providing contact information for random samples of students, faculty or staff. Research projects must have IRB approval before sample information will be provided. If you are unsure whether your project requires IRB approval, visit Miami University's Human Subjects Research website at: http://www.units.muohio.edu/compliance/irb/.
NOTE: If you are seeking student directory information for purposes other than research or assessment, please submit your request to the Office of the Registrar at http://www.units.muohio.edu/reg/labelrequest/.

Data for External Surveys of Miami University Departments or Programs
If you are seeking data to complete external surveys about your department or program, the following sources are a good place to begin.
The Common Data Set
The Common Data Set (CDS) includes data on admissions, student enrollment, faculty, class size, financial aid and other areas. Miami University's CDS includes data for the Oxford campus only and is available online beginning with the 1998-1999 academic year.

Descriptions of Miami University
External surveys of departments and programs occasionally ask participants to provide written descriptions of their institution. Miami University's Office of Marketing Communications has provided descriptions of varying lengths that should be used to complete such surveys.

The Fact Book
The Fact Book is a compilation of data about the university and is produced annually. The Fact Book typically includes information on Admissions, Enrollment, Graduation and Retention Rates, Degrees Granted, Tuition and Financial Aid, Faculty and Staff, and Finances. Unlike the Common Data Set, the Fact Book includes information on all Miami University campuses. The Fact Book is available online beginning with the 2004-2005 academic year.
