Ohio's Evaluation and Assessment Center for Mathematics and Science Education (Miami University), under the leadership of Dr. Sarah Beth Woodruff, provides national, regional, state and local evaluation, assessment and research services. The E & A Center has extensive experience in the evaluation of systemic reform, specializing in the evaluation of K-20+ mathematics, science, engineering and technology programs and projects, as well as research interest in issues of gender and ethnicity in STEM learning. Center staff have expertise in instrument development, sophisticated quantitative data analyses and qualitative methods, as well as knowledge and experience working with faculty, teachers, and their students in a variety of settings and contexts. The Center also involves affiliated faculty with expertise in assessment, psychometrics, STEM disciplines, STEM education, and educational psychology from numerous universities within Ohio and across the country.
At any given time, the E & A Center is involved in the evaluation and assessment of over 20 projects funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF). The Center has worked with clients across the US on NSF-funded projects at places such as the University of Pennsylvania, Purdue University, Ohio State University, Michigan State University, and Cornell University. The Center also has evaluated multiple state-level projects and programs funded by the Ohio Department of Education and the Ohio Board of Regents.
Although housed at Miami University, the Center is independently supported by more than 20 external grants and contracts with an annual operating budget in excess of 3 million to 4 million dollars. The Center maintains state-of-the-art computing and communications equipment and superior facilities. The E & A Center's successful evaluation of multiple large-scale projects is fostered by the close collaboration of the E & A Center team with project personnel. The Center's flat organizational structure and access to a large number of experts across the US facilitates a timely and efficacious response to changing project needs and emerging findings.
