UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH AWARD (URA) PROGRAM - IMPORTANT SCHEDULE CHANGE.
Miami’s Undergraduate Research Award Program encourages students to initiate and carry out small-scale, independent research projects in any discipline. Students can develop and implement either a practical or a creative study under the supervision of a faculty member. Individual awards or group project awards usually range from $150 to $1,000 and are made available through the Miami University Senate Committee for Undergraduate Research. Fall Semester 2009 Application Deadline March 2, 2009.
The University Undergraduate Research (UGR) Committee is changing the funding schedule for the 2009-2010 undergraduate research award programs. Students need more time to meet and interact with faculty in order to develop meaningful mentor/mentee relationships and to learn about existing research opportunities.
The new funding schedule requires students apply in the fall semester to receive funding for the spring semester and apply in the spring semester to receive funding for the fall semester.
The new spring semester application deadline will be 5:00 p.m. on the first Monday in March.
The new fall application deadline will be 5:00 p.m. on the first Monday after fall mid-term break. Submit applications to the Office for the Advancement of Research and Scholarship (OARS) 102 Roudebush Hall.
In order to convert to this new funding schedule, there will be two application deadlines in the 2009 spring semester:
• February 2, 2009 deadline for students to apply and receive funding to conduct a project in the spring 2009 semester
• March 2, 2009 application deadline for students to request funds for projects conducted in the fall semester 2009
• October 19, 2009 application deadline for students to request funds for projects conducted in the spring semester 2010
This new schedule provides more opportunity for students, faculty, and the Undergraduate Research Committee members to contribute to the goal of achieving high quality undergraduate research at Miami University.
