pictureWhat is FYRE?
FYRE (First Year Research Experience) is a 3-year pilot program funded by the Offices of the President and Provost to provide first year students with opportunities to become engaged in faculty research programs. In addition to the research experience, students also enroll in an undergraduate research course and attend seminars to become aware of the practice of research and the benefits of research as a co-curricular experience. FYRE Program Facilitators: Joyce Fernandes, Linda Dixon, Michael Kennedy, Martha Weber. Small stipends are available to support 100 students and their mentors during the 2010-2011 academic year. All FYRE activities are in keeping with a number of the President’s 5 year strategic goals that address advancing the academic success of students and raising the level of scholarly accomplishments, as described in his model of “Student as Scholar”.
