FYRE STEM 2011-12 Student Led Team - Families and Chronic Illness
"Project 1 involves the coding and analysis of qualitative interview data with breast cancer survivors" and Project 2 "Will explore the theory of Health-Related Family Quality of Life and coping processes among parents of children who have been diagnosed with lymphatic and/or vascular malformations"

FYRE STEM 2010-11 Student Led Team - Pancreatic Cancer Mouse-Model Study

"The initial goals of the FYRE Team include producing a photographic atlas of the dissection of the mouse pancreas to be published on the online scientific journal JOVE (Journal of Visualized Experiments). In addition, our team will also explore how to improve sectioning techniques once the pancreas has been dissected." Read the Wilson Team FYRE Project description.

FYRE STEM 2010-11 Student Led Team -
Development of the adult motor system in the fruit-fly, Drosophila melanogaster
Research in the Fernandes lab focuses on studying the genetics of nervous system development in the fruit-fly, Drosophila melanogaster. Specifically, how the larval motor system is reorganized during metamorphosis to generate the adult counterpart. Study techniques: Genetic manipulations, Micro-dissections, immunostaining, confocal microscopy, histology, electron microscopy, use of measurement software.
