b. Consulting Rates on Sponsored Programs - Miami Faculty and Staff.

The daily rate on federally funded projects may not exceed 1/195 (for a 9 month contract salary) and 1/260 for a 12 month contract salary. This same standard is recommended for other projects; however, higher rates may be used subject to sponsor policies.

c. Student Hourly Wages

Effective 1/24/2009 the Federal minimum pay rate will increase to $7.25. The following Miami University student wage scale was effective beginning January 1, 2009. Details available at: http://www.muohio.edu/sfa/employment/

d. Graduate Student Stipends

Graduate Student Stipends (generally based on 50% effort during 9-month academic year) vary somewhat by classification of student and department. Please consult either the Office for the Advancement of Research and Scholarship or the Graduate School Office for specifics in your case.

e. Statistical Consulting Center

The Center offers statistical consulting to faculty, staff, graduate and undergraduate students conducting research at Miami University. Contact Mike Hughes, the Manager of the Center, for details concerning rates and services provided (529-5148).

3. Travel

a. Vehicle Use Reimbursement Rates

See MUPPH section 7.40.

  • Personal automobileusage is reimbursed at $0.55 per mile (effective 1/1/2009).
  • Personal motorcycle usage is reimbursed at $0.10 per mile.

b. Meal and Incidental Expense Rates (M&IE)

Meal allowances and incidental expenses vary by locality of travel and are based on federal per diem levels listed in Section 9.30 of MUPPH. The continental United States standard rate for meals and incidental expenses is $30 and applies to all locations not specifically identified as having a higher per diem rate. NOTE: Meals are not reimbursable unless the traveler is in overnight travel status.

5. FACILITIES AND ADMINISTRATIVE COSTS

  1. 42% on-campus rate of modified total direct costs (MTDC). Calculation of MTDC excludes: Equipment*, participant support costs, tuition remission, rents/costs of off-site facilities, scholarships and fellowships, and that portion of each subcontract in excess of $25,000.The 42% rate includes a 26% Administrative Charge plus a 16% Facilities Charge. The 42% on-campus rate is to be used for all projects (research, instruction, and other) that are either based on campus, use or retain for use University facilities, or that do not qualify for the off-campus rate.
  2. 26% off-campus rate of modified total direct costs (MTDC). Calculation of MTDC excludes: Equipment*, participant support costs, tuition remission, rents/costs of off-site facilities, scholarships and fellowships, and that portion of each subcontract in excess of $25,000. The 26% off-campus rate represents the 26% Administration Charge only. It is to be used for all activities performed in facilities not owned by the institution and to which rent is directly allocated to the project(s), Projects eligible for the reduced 26% off-campus rate instead generally pay for needed research or instructional facilities as direct project costs or use donated facilities. Field studies and travel to meetings or conventions typically do not qualify for the off-campus rate.

*Equipment is defined as any non-expendable item or system with a lifespan of more than 1 year and a value of $5,000 or greater effective 7/1/2009.
