Private Foundations

Miami pre-approval is required. OARS will pre-screen and coordinate all requests to these community foundations and set priorities for the request. Funding from regional community foundations are an integral resource for many Miami faculty members. However, community foundations like Hamilton or Cincinnati limit the number of Miami-based funding requests during each funding cycle.

Cleveland Foundation
The foundation requires all potential grant applicants to submit a grant inquiry, outlining basic information about the proposed project. Grant inquiries can be submitted at any time. If it is determined that your project fits the foundation’s guidelines, you will be asked within a few weeks to submit a full application. Columbus Foundation

The mission of the Foundation is to assist donors and others in strengthening and improving the community for the benefit of all its residents. For more information for collaborative research that involves Columbus, Ohio, go to: http://columbusfoundation.org/grants/columbus-foundation/.

Dayton Foundation
The Dayton Foundation is a community foundation that has been helping people help others in Greater Dayton since 1921. Deadlines are as follows:
--June, 7, 2011 - Grants program orientation.
--July 8, 2011, by 5 p.m. - Letter of Intent (LOI) submission deadline.
--September 30, 2011 - Full grant application submission deadline (LOI approval required).
--November 9, 2011 - Grants program orientation.

Fairfield Community Foundation
The Foundation exists to enhance and strengthen the quality of life for the citizens of Fairfield City and Fairfield Township. Arts Wave-Cincinnati
Supports the arts that connect people across communities, enabling them to share ideas and get to know each other, and
Creates connections between arts organizations and with people all over.

Project Support Grants- August 1, 2011 and January 9, 2012 deadlines.
Operating Support Grants- July 6, 2011 deadline.

Greater Cincinnati Foundation (GCF): The Foundation makes grants from unrestricted and field of interest funds on a quarterly basis. Grants support projects in six areas: Arts & Culture, Community & Economic Development, Education, Environment, Health, and Human Services. The Foundation does not accept unsolicited grant proposals. All potential grant applicants must contact the Foundation as a first step. Grant process and guidelines.

Hamilton Community Foundation
: The Foundation strives for excellence through strategic grantmaking in such fields as the arts, education, housing, social services, civic beautification and development, and recreation. Deadlines are as follows:
January 1
- for review in February
March 1 - for review in April
May 1 - for review in June
September 1 - for review in October
November 1 - for review in December

Martha Holden Jennings Foundation

The Grants-To-Educators program supports the foundation's basic objective of recognizing and encouraging outstanding classroom or school programs for public schools or non-religious private schools working with public schools in Ohio.
Grants to Educators- Applications should be submitted by the 20th of the preceding month to be considered. The maximum amount for a Grant-To-Educators is $3,000.

Middletown Community Foundation- considers grant applications four times per calendar year.

Oxford Community Foundation
The Oxford Community Foundation welcomes grant proposals for worthy projects focused on the greater Oxford area (defined as the Talawanda School District). Deadlines for Grants: September 1, 2011, November 1, 2011, and January 2, 2012.

Procter & Gamble
P&G focuses its social investments on the global cause, Live, Learn and Thrive. This cause comes to life through P&G's initiatives in communities around the world, reaching children in need. P&G wants to help children live by ensuring a healthy start; provide them with places, tools and programs that enhance their ability to learn; and help them develop skills for life so they can thrive. Grant Application Cycles are July 1 through September 30, and December 1 through February 28. P&G only accepts grant requests during those times.

West Chester/Liberty Community Foundation
The Foundation makes grants to non-profit organizations working in the following areas:

  • Arts and Culture
  • Civic and Community
  • Education and Scholarship
  • Parks and Recreation
  • Health and Human Services
  • Disaster Relief

Deadlines for Grants: March 18, 2011, July 8, 2011, and October 14, 2011.
