"Twenty-five species of grasses and wildflowers broadly representative of the native tall grass prairie of the Midwest were planted here in 2004"
The purpose of this site is to demonstrate that landscaping with native plants can create wildlife habitat and a visually appealing alternative to turf grass (lawn).
Substituting native landscaping for turf grass also reduces toxic lawn mover emissions and the use of chemicals such as pesticides, herbicides, and man-made fertilizers.
Water is conserved because native species are adapted to to our local climate and rainfall and do not need to be watered once established.
Native prairies support a diversity of wildlife by providing food and cover.
