Howard "Buddy" Jackson was named Coordinator of Emergency Medical
Services in January, 2005. Since that time, Buddy has been responsible for
an increase in staffing, as well as obtaining new equipment for the EMS staff.
Buddy began his emergency services career as a fire/EMS explorer in high
school with the Fairfield Township Fire Department in Hamilton, Ohio. Being
an Explorer helped steer him towards going to EMT school. After obtaining his
EMT-Basic certification in August 2000, Buddy was hired by Fairfield Township
as an EMT. He began working volunteer/paid-on-call shifts on Friday nights, in
addition to going to school full time at Miami University during the day. In
October 2000, Buddy was hired by the Miami University Police Department as a
student aide. One of his responsibilities was as an EMT. Working special events,
Buddy began to learn from the two EMTs already on staff. By July 2003, Buddy
was the senior EMT with the organization, and assisted the new Coordinator with
his transition.
Buddy is a 2004 graduate of Miami University with a Bachelor's degree in
Social Studies Education. Once graduating from Miami, he began a full time
opportunity with the Police Department as a dispatcher on third shift. During
this time, Buddy also went on to attend the Paramedic Academy at Butler Tech
in Hamilton, receiving his certification in February 2006. He currently is
assigned to second shift in the department's Communications Center. He also
now works several part-time shifts per month on the life squad at Fairfield
Township Fire Department, in addition to attending Miami as a part-time student.
Buddy currently resides in Hamilton, Ohio with his wife Teri and dog Ernie.
He usually can be found at large events, such as football games, some hockey
games, concerts, and commencements.
