About the Miami University Marching BandMembers of the Miami University Marching Band represent every division and almost every major at the university. Music Majors represent less than 25% of the group. The instrumentation listed to the left is not set. It varies from season to season depending on the needs of each section. Any undergraduate student can audtion during band camp, with specialty auditions for color guard, drill team, and feature twirlers happening during the previous semester. Percussion auditions are the day before and first day of Band Camp. Band Camp is a week long training process that teaches new members the Miami-style of marching, pregame, and the first half-time show of the season. All members, new and returning, are required to attend band camp. Band Camp commences a full week ahead of the start of the fall semester. The Fall 2008 Band Camp will begin on Saturday, August 16 for percussion and staff and Sunday, August 17 for all other members. Band Camp will continue through August 24. On-campus rehearsals take place at the Center for Performing Arts on the Oxford Campus. If you decide to join the Miami Marching Band, you will become a member of one of finest student organizations on campus. You will also join those members who have made life long friends as well as gain an instant support network as you enter Miami University. Opportunities for leadership and service are also available to new members.
