Concerning Membership in the
Miami University Marching Band

1) Band Camp
Band camp for the MUMB is held the week immediately before school begins in August and is a requirement for membership in the band.

2) Band Camp Housing and Meal Plans
Student housing and meals for the week of band camp for any student living in Miami University housing is provided by Miami University at a nominal cost of approximately $19 a day and is charged directly to the students bursar's account with Miami University. To arrange housing and meals, go to http://www.muohio.edu/myaccount/ and following the instructions listed there. Make sure you indicate that you are with the Marching Band (otherwise the cost may be higher). 3) Fees and Expenses
The MUMB is committed to making membership in the band affordable to everyone. All members are required to pay a $75 registration fee for band camp. This fee covers the cost of evening meals at band camp and the required MUMB shirt and can be paid at band camp. All instrumentalists are required to provide their own white marching shoes and gloves, which are available for purchase upon registration to band camp ($30 for shoes and $2 for gloves). There is a $35 rental fee for anyone who will be using a university owned instument, payable at band camp. Students may be asked to pay for one meal on our overnight trip. In lieu of a uniform fee, members are asked to dry clean their uniform at least once during the marching season.

4) MUMB Auditions
Pre-season auditions are held in the spring for Shakerettes (mid-March), Feature Twirlers, and Field Commanders (last weekend in April). Playing and marching auditions for instrumentalists are held during the first three days of band camp. Music for the auditions will be available on this website (in the Members Area). An email will be sent to all members as music is made available on the site.

5) Trips
The travel schedule for the MUMB varies year to year depending on the conference schedule. Historically, the MUMB will make one overnight trip and one day trip. All expenses for the trip are covered by the MUMB.

6) Instrument Rentals
Mellophones, baritones, sousaphones and percussion will be provided by the MUMB for a nominal yearly rental fee of $35. These instruments will be assigned at band camp registration. Some other instruments can be provided by the marching band.

7) Scheduling
All members of the MUMB must schedule Marching Band (MUS 106). Although it is best to schedule Marching Band during the summer orientation scheduling sessions, band may be force added at the beginning of the school year.Marching Band is a 2 hour credit class and meets daily from 4:00 to 5:30pm. Schedule conflicts are a common occurrence with Marching Band. Most of these conflicts are resolved during the first week of classes. Any conflict not resolved by the start of school will be personally resolved by the director.

8) Registration
You are encouraged to register as a potential member through our web site at www.muohio.edu/mumb. Once you are registered as a potential member, you will receive all information concerning the MUMB. In the early summer, you will need to register specifically for band camp, via US mail or, again, our web site.
