What is the IT Services Print Center Survey Scanning Service?

The IT Services Print Center Survey Scanning Service is a service offered to support Miami University faculty and staff for scanning printed surveys produced from Snap Surveys software. To learn more about Snap Surveys, click the "Snap Surveys" link in the left navigation pane.

Preparing your survey for the Print Center Survey Scanning Service

If you intend to use the Survey Scanning Service, it is highly recommended that you consult with a survey scanning specialist in the Print Center as you design the physical layout of your survey to ensure that your data will scan accurately.

Note: The Print Center highly recommends, but does not require, the use of 'locator blocks' and page numbers when designing surveys for printing.

Print Center Scanner

Can:

• Scans 8.5 x 11 and 11 x 17 size paper
• Accepts 20# and 60# weights of paper
• Reads date fields marked with black and blue colored ink
• Reads both sides of a 2-sided document in one pass
• Easily scans documents with cut corner
• Will detect data from surveys designed from Snap using locator blocks or manual calibration.

Cannot:

• Detect data from shadowed boxes or colored background
• Detect data from a non-rectangular shape, such as a circle
• Scans hand written data, but does not interpret it as useable data
• Detect light led pencil marks

To start an order for scanning services, go to the Print Center Web site and follow the instructions for submitting the scheduling form and the survey files.

The Print Center can also provide other advice and services to consider in your survey project:

• Digital printing in black and white or full color
• Paper selection
• Automated addressing for first class or bulk mail
• Advice on preparation of mailings to meet current postal regulations
