IT Services Student Support Provider

SSP LogoWhat is an IT Services Student Support Provider?

Information Technology Services employs approximately 200 students to work in various capacities throughout the university. These students work in technology support positions and other support positions (Print Center, receptionist) and are known as Student Support Providers (SSP). The SSP training program is set up to provide these students the opportunity to excel in their various positions.

What is IT Services SSP Training Program?

The Student Support Provider (SSP) Training Program is designed specifically to give you instruction which will benefit you in your specific job--whether it's in the Print Center, ResNet, the Learning Technology Center Lab, Support Desk, Advanced Learning Technologies, or as a receptionist. The program covers introductory courses in Word, Excel, Access, and HTML, and moves the learner on to more technical topics such as UNIX, Novell, JAVA and Oracle to name a few. You will be taking courses that apply only to your job.

If you are already employed by IT Services, you can take advantage of a first training session which is held the day before classes begin in the Fall. Instruction continues during the school year with the SSP proceeding at his/her own pace. Most instruction is delivered via Web-based Training (WBT). Instructor-led classes may be offered throughout the school year. All classes are one to two hours long and the training day is never more than four hours. Students new to the university may begin instruction upon employment with IT Services.

Training

Under the training program, student employees will be given the opportunity to complete classes. Each class is given a point value from 3 - 5 points. Fifty points earned from taking courses, and your job performance, will raise you to the next pay level. Continued instruction and good job performance will raise you higher until you've reached the highest pay level for your job. In return, the student will have a broad base of knowledge in many areas of technology, and the ability to better serve the university in a highly trained student employee capacity.
