WebFOCUS Techniques

Upgrading to WebFOCUS 4.2.1

Upgrading to WebFOCUS 4.2.1 is a five-step process that affects three software components; Internet Explorer 4.01, Virtual Machine and Acrobat Reader. The steps below detail the exact steps to complete this process.

1. Identifying the necessary upgrades.

It is first necessary to determine exactly what upgrades are necessary for the destination computer.

  1. Open Internet Explorer.
  2. Go to the Help Menu and select About Internet Explorer.
  3. Verify the Internet Explorer version number and Service Pack level.
  4. If the Service Pack level is below SP2, then an upgrade is necessary.


  1. Close Internet Explorer.

As part of this upgrade you must now verify the Java Virtual Machine version level that is currently installed on the machine. Follow the steps below to complete this process.

  1. Go to the Start button and click Run.
  2. Type in "command" excluding the quotation marks.
  3. A command line window will appear.
  4. At the command prompt type in "jview" and press Enter.
  5. If the line that reads "Microsoft ® Command-line Loader for Java Version….." reads any version below 5.00.3186, then an update is necessary for this machine.
  6. Type "exit" at the command prompt and press Enter.

 

2. Updating Internet Explorer 4.01 SP1 to SP2

    1. Using Network Neighborhood, navigate to the following location:
      Entire Network
      Netware Servers
      MUServer1
      Support
      Win9x-NT
      Applications
      MS Internet Explorer
      V 4.01 SP2


    2. Double click on the file ie4setup.exe.
    3. The following window will appear.

    1. Click Next to continue.


    1. Click "I accept the agreement" and click Next.
    2. Accept the default installation folder, which should be C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer. Click Next to proceed.



    1. Internet Explorer Setup will now proceed and install the pre-selected components. This installation should take approximately 10 minutes.
    2. Once Setup has completed you will see the following prompt.



    3. Click Ok.



    4. Click Ok to restart the computer.

3. Installing Java Virtual Machine 5.00.3186.

  1. Using Network Neighborhood, navigate to the following location: Entire Network
    Netware Servers
    MUServer1
    Support
    Win9x-NT
    Applications
    MS Internet Explorer
    VirtualMachine

  2. Double click the file mjavx86.exe.3. The following window will appear.



  3. Click Yes to install.



  4. Click Yes to accept the Licensing Agreement.
  5. Click Ok to complete the installation.
  6. Click Yes to restart the computer.
  7. Once the computer has restarted login to the network and proceed to Step 4.

4. Installing Adobe Acrobat Reader 4.0

Note: You may already have Acrobat Reader 4.0 installed as part of MUnet 4.0

  1. Using Network Neighborhood, navigate to the following location:
    Entire Network
    Netware Servers
    MUServer1
    Support
    Win9x-NT

    Applications

    Acrobat Reader
    V 4.0


  2. Double click on the file ar40eng.exe.
  3. The following window will appear.



  1. Click Ok to proceed with the installation.
  2. The following window will appear.



  1. Click Next to proceed.




  1. Click Accept to accept the Licensing Agreement.
  2. The following window will appear.



  1. Click Next to accept the default location to install the program files.
  2. Once the application installation has completed the following window will appear.




  1. Click Finish restart the computer.
  2. Once the computer has restarted proceed to Step

5. Applying the Internet Explorer Timeout Settings.

    1. Using Network Neighborhood, navigate to the following location:
      Entire Network
      Netware Servers
      MUserver1
      Support

      Win9x-NT
      Applications
      MS Internet Explorer
      IE Timeout

    2. Point to the file "IE4Timeout.reg", hold down the right mouse button and drag the file to you Windows 95 Desktop. Release the mouse button and choose "Copy here" from the shortcut menu.
    3. Double click "IE4Timeout.reg" on your desktop.
    4. You will receive the following message.


    1. Click Ok.
    2. Restart the computer.
Once the machine has restarted the machine is now ready for the use of WebFOCUS 4.2.1.

Known Issues with Internet Explorer I receive this message when I load WebFOCUS "The request did not specify a valid virtual host." The URL WWW.MUOHIO.EDU/WEBFOCUS is not a direct link to WebFOCUS. Direct link to WebFOCUS http://admaix20.mcs.muohio.edu:3080/ibi_html/workbnch/
