INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY ADVISORY COMMITTEES

Information technology advisory committees ensure university-wide input and involvement in decisions affecting information technology at Miami University. Growing out of the strategic planning process initiated in 2004, when the new vice presidential division of Information Technology was created, the advisory structure is designed to provide avenues for input from multiple constituencies.

Information Technology Executive Council

The Information Technology Executive Council provides leadership, decision-making and communication for the strategic and tactical planning of information technology from a university perspective. The council’s responsibilities include IT policy review and endorsement, IT project prioritization, approval of the annual tactical plan and approving recommendation for strategic plan revisions or updates.

Information Technology Strategic Advisory Council

The IT Strategic Advisory Council serves as an advisory body to the President, with the Provost serving as chair. Membership of this council is designed to ensure active input from the deans, finance and business services, student affairs, libraries and students. Providing advice and guidance regarding strategic direction for information and instructional technologies are the core responsibilities of this body.

Information Technology Project Review Board

Comprised of the President’s and Vice Presidents’ designees for IT project intake and prioritization, the Project Review Board brings forward requests for IT projects from their areas and collaboratively determines prioritization for use of IT resources. Each board member has the responsibility to advocate for the projects their area is requesting, but the group must balance the individual division’s needs against the needs of the university.

Student Technology Advisory Committee

Comprised of students, and co-chaired by a representative from Student Affairs, the Student Technology Advisory Committee is advisory to the Vice President for Information Technology. The committee’s responsibilities include making policy recommendations and providing input on potential, planned and current IT projects and services.

University Committees on Information Technology

In addition to the advisory councils created by the Vice President for Information Technology, the University Senate Committee on IT Policy (formerly the Computing and Information Services Committee) and the Technology Support Representative (TSR) Group are existing IT committees that also meet regularly and provide advice and guidance to the Vice President for Information Technology.
