January 19, 2004. Macromedia Studio MX 2004 provides professional functionality for every aspect of web development and includes the newest versions of Dreamweaver, Flash, Fireworks and FreeHand.

It has been installed in the Labs for student use.


 


January 19, 2004. Minitab 13 has been replaced with Minitab 14 in the Gaskill Lab and the Classroom area. MacCracken computer re-building is in progress.


 

December 30, 2003. In response to the needs of the School of Education and Allied Professions, to complement their instruction and training needs, IT Services has pruchased the entire Adobe Suite for both the Macintosh and Windows systems. The seven software packages include: Acrobat Professional, Reader, GoLive, Illustrator, ImageReady, InDesign (replacing Pagemaker) and Photoshop.


 

 July 23, 2003. Our first 17" LTC monitors have arrived with new IBM NetVista A Series computers. The new monitors are easy on the eyes! Students are accepting these units with great enthusiasm! Installing 19 units in Gaskill and 4 at the MacCracken LTC shares new technology between the two LTC facilities. Combining our high-speed networking and these new computers makes work fast and reliable. The computers boast a fast Pentium 4 1.8 GHz processor and 256 MB of RAM.

January 5, 2002. Through a special arrangement with the School of Engineering and Applied Science, IT Services now offers the use of AutoCAD 2002 for student use in the Gaskill LTC only. Support for the product remains under the department and division.

A companion modeling program, Solid Edge, has also been added to the Gaskill computers.


 

October 9, 2001. A Tri-Media Reader disk drive has been installed in the Gaskill LTC multimedia area for student use. This special drive will allow the user to read SmartMedia and Compact Flash cards. It also supports a standard 3.5 floppy drive. This is available at location GAS84 for editing scanned or digitized images using PhotoShop on this high-end Dell GX400 computer.


 

August 9, 2001. Special funding was made available for the purchase of new Dell GX400 computers. Installing these 43 units brings a computer to every station at the Gaskill Learning Technologies Center. Combining our high-speed networking and these new computers makes work fast and reliable. The computers include 250 MB Zips drives, capable of also reading the earlier 100 MB disk.


 

May 11, 2001. IT Services/LTC has established Macs at Mac! Our little-used B & W Apple Macintosh G3 computers from Gaskill have been moved to the MacCracken LTC, now nearer to the divisions that use these fine high-powered computers. While this lab was closed for the summer, we cooperated with the Music Department to expand their program by giving them space and computers. Fine Arts will administer the program and when the "music lab" is not being used for classes, the computers will be open for general student use and exploration. Standard Office 2000 and MuNet applications will be complemented by specialized music software such as Finale. Special music keyboards and headphones are being installed for the fall semester.


 

January 16, 2001. SAS was upgraded from v 6.12 to 8.01 in the Gaskill lab after quick work and notification by a member of the IT Services statistical team. LTC Technical workers dutifully re-imaged 70 computers to meet the needs of their student peers. IT Services/LTC personnel work closely with divisional Technical Support Representatives. The Reid and MacCracken labs will also be re-built as well. Timely notifciation is required.

Faculty and staff seeking support for their classes are asked to review our software guidelines (http://www.units.muohio.edu/mcs/media/ltc/software.htm) and discuss their needs with the Manager


 

January 5, 2001. New software has been installed on all computers at all three LTC sites over the break.

In cooperation with other divisions on campus and their respective academic programs, IT Services now supports two Macromedia programs for Web Development; Dreamweaver and Fireworks have been added to both the Wintel computers and the Macintoshs.


 

FileMaker 5 has been added to the Wintel platform only for a database management course.


 

The plaster repair work that began Tuesday, September 5 at the MacCracken site has been completed. The painting is also completed. The computers are no longer covered with plastic and it is not necessary to use only the Gaskill and Reid sites. MacCracken is fully operational!


 

August 10, 2000. New IBM desktop computers have been placed in the Reid Learning Technologies Center. 10 of these 27 units contain zip drives for student storage (hardware)


 

August 8, 2000. 9 new Dell Pentium III 667 Mhz GX200 computers are earmarked for multimedia development in all three Learning Technologies Centers. 4 units have been placed in the Gaskill LTC, 3 in MacCracken and 2 units in Reid. All have PhotoShop and PageMaker loaded (hardware). New scanners are attached to several units.


 

August 3, 2000. New computers! 17 new Dell Pentium III 667 Mhz GX110 computers have been placed in the Gaskill Hall Learning Technologies Center for student use (hardware). Standard software and programs have been loaded on these units (software).


 

August 4, 2000. NEW SOFTWARE! MATLAB is an integrated technical computing environment that combines numeric computation, advanced graphics and visualization, and a high-level programming language. MATLAB includes hundreds of functions for: • Data analysis and visualization • Numeric and symbolic computation • Engineering and scientific graphics • Modeling, simulation, and prototyping • Programming, application development, and GUI design.


 

April, 2000. Miami was named one of the top 100 "Most Wired" universities in the United States by Yahoo!
