October 9, 2001. A Tri-Media Reader disk drive has been installed in the Gaskill LTC multimedia area for student use. This special drive will allow the user to read SmartMedia and Compact Flash cards. It also supports a standard 3.5 floppy drive. This is available at location GAS84 for editing scanned or digitized images using PhotoShop on this high-end Dell GX400 computer.

August 9, 2001. Special funding was made available for the purchase of new Dell GX400 computers. Installing these 43 units brings a computer to every station at the Gaskill Learning Technologies Center. Combining our high-speed networking and these new computers makes work fast and reliable. The computers include 250 MB Zips drives, capable of also reading the earlier 100 MB disk.

May 11, 2001. IT Services/LTC has established Macs at Mac! Our little-used B & W Apple Macintosh G3 computers from Gaskill have been moved to the MacCracken LTC, now nearer to the divisions that use these fine high-powered computers. While this lab was closed for the summer, we cooperated with the Music Department to expand their program by giving them space and computers. Fine Arts will administer the program and when the "music lab" is not being used for classes, the computers will be open for general student use and exploration. Standard Office 2000 and MuNet applications will be complemented by specialized music software such as Finale. Special music keyboards and headphones are being installed for the fall semester.

January 16, 2001. SAS was upgraded from v 6.12 to 8.01 in the Gaskill lab after quick work and notification by a member of the IT Services statistical team. LTC Technical workers dutifully re-imaged 70 computers to meet the needs of their student peers. IT Services/LTC personnel work closely with divisional Technical Support Representatives. The Reid and MacCracken labs will also be re-built as well. Timely notifciation is required.

Faculty and staff seeking support for their classes are asked to review our software guidelines (http://www.units.muohio.edu/mcs/media/ltc/software.htm) and discuss their needs with the Manager

January 5, 2001. New software has been installed on all computers at all three LTC sites over the break.

In cooperation with other divisions on campus and their respective academic programs, IT Services now supports two Macromedia programs for Web Development; Dreamweaver and Fireworks have been added to both the Wintel computers and the Macintoshs.

FileMaker 5 has been added to the Wintel platform only for a database management course.

The plaster repair work that began Tuesday, September 5 at the MacCracken site has been completed. The painting is also completed. The computers are no longer covered with plastic and it is not necessary to use only the Gaskill and Reid sites. MacCracken is fully operational!
