Miami University Dolibois European Campus in Luxembourg
Application Procedure

Faculty and Staff

Greetings and best wishes from the
Mudec family, 2008-09

Step 1: Advising. We urge you to schedule an appointment with the chief advisor in your major department or your division soon, to discuss how the Luxembourg courses fit into your long-range academic planning for your major. Also see Dr. Stroinigg, the Lux Coordinator, to find out all about the Luxembourg courses, Lux thematic sequences, Lux Miami Plan Foundation courses and other academic opportunities. With early planning, most majors can study on the Lux campus and graduate on time. Each year there are 40-50 different majors represented among our students. The program is as excellent and practical acdemically as it is exciting! It's a great opportunity!!

  • We can accept complete applications only. A complete application consists of the following:
    • the body of the application form
    • the green housing form,
    • the judicial form
    • the personal essay
    • your two letters of recommendation (one from a professor and one from a personal reference)
    • the $25 application fee (check or money order made out to Miami University, no cash, please.
    • If you are a non-Miami student and wish to apply, please request a non-Miami application packet from us. We will send it out to you immediately.
  • Transcripts: Miami students do not need to supply a transcript. We have access to that information.
  • Letters of Recommendation: Bring them with you when you bring us your application form & fee. Your application will not be considered until the references & all other parts of the application are submitted.  If all parts of the application are not received by Jan. 24, you will not be considered in the first round. Be aware that contacting referees can be a lengthy process. It’s wise to start right away. Follow the instructions on the reference forms!!
  • Non-Miami applicants must fill out a transient application for the Office of Admission; send that office an additional $45 fee and an official transcript of record that includes the first grading period of the current academic year. We send non-Miami students the transient form with their application packages.
  • A $250 deposit is to be paid at the Luxembourg Office upon receiving an acceptance letter. Check or money order payable to Miami University (no cash, please). This deposit will appear as a credit on your bursar bill.
  • An important decision: choosing a “Base Course.” Before you complete the application form, please see your academic adviser--take your MUDEC bulletin (with course information) along to show him/her--so that you make an informed choice regarding a Base Course.
    • We require that you indicate your choice of Base Course on the application form because it is essential for our field study tour planning. Each Base Course is capped at a manageable number due to travel constraints. If too many students choose a particular Base Course for fall or spring, it will affect our admissions procedure. We will make an announcement requesting that some students volunteer to switch or be flexible about the choice of Base Course and/or semester. If, at that point, we still have too many applicants for a Base Course, all the applicants for that Base Course will be ranked according to the criteria explained on the eligibility statement stapled on the front of the application form.
    • Flexibility: If either semester is OK with you, please indicate that on your application! Please indicate your first, second and third choice of base course.
    • Once you choose a Base Course, you cannot change that selection unless our office gives you permission, so please think it through carefully and discuss it with your adviser before submitting your application.
  • Personal essay: Think carefully about why you want to study in Europe. Please proofread carefully. Respond fully to each of the questions posed.
  • Meetings: We may call you to set up a meeting. If you are a non-Miami student, it will be a telephone meeting.
  • Financial Aid: Remember to file the FAFSA form by March 15 in order to be eligible for need-based scholarships or financial aid.  You can demonstrate financial need only by completing the FAFSA form.  The forms are on-line (www.fafsa.ed.gov/) and also available in the Office of Student Financial Assistance, 121 CAB, 529-8734.

Acceptance letters for first-round applicants are mailed out during the first week in March.

Please contact us for the the application forms. If you are a local student, just drop in our office anytime, Monday through Friday 8:00 A.M.-5:00 P.M. (summers 7:30 A.M.-4:30 P.M.) . We will be happy to mail the application and information to those further away, including our Hamilton campus and Middletown campus students. If you are a non-Miami student and wish to apply, please request a non-Miami application packet from us. We will send it out to you immediately.
