General Information

The 2009 Summer Honors Institute, B the Change (U Wish 2 C), is a full-day program, Monday – Friday for two weeks, July 13 – 24, 2009, open to gifted students and are Ohio residents and will complete grades 9 – 10 during the 2008 – 2009 school year. See Eligibility for more information.

Students may commute to campus daily or take advantage of the residential option. The program is free for those who commute. There are 17 scholarships available, click here to learn more.

Residential students will be living in Hahne Residence Hall on the Miami University campus in Oxford, Ohio. Learn more about the residence hall by clicking here.

  • Residential students will be provided a breakfast from 7:30 - 8 AM.
  • Commuter students should plan to arrive no later than 7:45 each morning. Pick up time Monday - Thursday is 5 PM.
  • Pick up time for all students on Friday it is 3 PM.

Space is limited to 25 participants, these slots will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. *Please note "First Priority" deadline below.

Deadlines:

  • The "First Priority Scholarship" for students who are from under-represented backgrounds deadline: March 16, 2009 (To be considered for scholarships for under-represented students must meet one of these three criteria: Demonstrate financial need; English as a second language students; Students with disabilities).
  • General Application deadline: April 10, 2009; Miami will send notification of acceptance by April 24, 2009.
  • Student Commitment to Attend forms due May 8, 2009.

Safety and Security of Students:

  • Safety and security is a top priority for Miami University's Summer Honors Institute.
  • All Summer Honors Institute Program Associates will have cell phones.
  • Students will have a Program Associate with them during instruction and at community-based service learning sites.
  • Evening social activities will be supervised; students will be required to stay in groups of three when at chaperoned, public events.
  • Overnight supervision will be provided by a Residence Hall Director and Program Associates, all trained in emergency procedures, who will be on-call and available at all times.
