Miami University has three offices on campus offering study abroad opportunities.
- Office of International Education – Study abroad advisors and staff in the OIE will work with students interested in study abroad. Advisors will assist you in finding a program that best fits your needs. This office also facilitates application and enrollment in exchange programs through other universities or education abroad programs abroad. (MacMillan Hall)
- Miami University Dolibois European Center (MUDEC) -- The Miami University campus in Luxembourg offering a wide variety of courses each semester taught by Miami faculty as well as European faculty. Students may apply for spring or fall semester, or the academic year. (MacMillan Hall)
- Lifelong Learning – This extended education office administers and supports study abroad credit workshops in the fall and spring semester, as well as during winter, spring, and summer breaks. Workshops vary in length from a few weeks to a full semester. Some service learning, not for credit, programs are also offered. All programs are led by Miami faculty. During 2009-10, approximately 100 programs were offered by Lifelong Learning, with 1,200 Miami students traveling to 45 locations, with over 100 Miami faculty leaders. (McGuffey Hall)
A credit workshop includes one or several Miami University courses, but they are flexibly scheduled and offered in various locations: on campus, online, in the US, or abroad. The courses vary in length and content (compared to traditional on campus courses) as they extend the engaged learning experience offered Miami University.
- Workshops offer Miami credit – exactly the same credit a student receives in a traditional course on campus.
- A faculty member may offer a related group of existing courses or newly developed courses and teach them at an abroad location.
- Credit may fulfill Miami major or minor requirements and some workshops meet capstone, thematic sequence, or independent study and research program requirements. Always check with an academic advisor to determine what requirements the workshop credit will fulfill.
- Students appreciate the flexibility, particularly in the summer, when the student can earn credit in a shorter period of time.
- For example: You can receive six credits of a language in about four weeks of intensive cultural study abroad, allowing for time during the standard fall or spring semester to enroll in other courses and stay on track toward degree requirements.
Workshop tuition is comparable to standard Miami tuition, and it is paid to Miami University.
- By planning well in advance with your financial aid counselor you may be able to use financial aid for workshop tuition costs.
- Most study abroad workshops have additional costs, such as transportation, room and board, and this is generally not included in the tuition, but may be covered by financial aid – check with your financial aid advisor, early and often!
Lifelong Learning credit workshops are organized, taught and led by excellent Miami faculty, the same faculty teaching student-centered courses on campus, and offering standard Miami University credit. With many flexible travel options, you can find the workshop that fits your schedule, resources, academic, and needs and interests.
- Since Miami faculty are teaching workshop courses, there is no transfer of credit paperwork required. It is Miami credit that applies directly to your academic requirements and degree plan.
- You have the opportunity to go abroad for a length of time that is fits your schedule and comfort level, and you are traveling with other Miami students and faculty.
No, there are some spring and fall semester long workshops, as well as some both domestic and abroad during the spring and winter breaks.
Workshops can be viewed and registered through www.muohio.edu/workshops. This is different from where you view courses (www.muohio.edu/courselists) and register (www.muohio.edu/bannerweb).
.
As long as the director has NOT put any restrictions on the workshop registration (i.e. registration requires director's signature), you will find the workshop at www.muohio.edu/LLL, or view a listing at www.muohio.edu/workshops and proceed through this web system to request workshop registration. Your information is sent to Lifelong Learning for processing.
You may also find the workshop within the published bulletin and may complete a paper registration form and walk it along with payment to Lifelong Learning. A workshop specific customized registration paper form can be obtained from the workshop director or a blank form can be obtained from www.muohio.edu/LLL under "Credit Registration"
Ten (10) days prior to the start of the workshop, the online registration option will be disabled and all registrants will be required to register by the paper form. This is to ensure payment is made prior to the start of the workshop.
.
Whether the request was submitted online or if the paper form was turned in to Lifelong Learning, the request will be held until registration for that term opens and then the registration request will be processed.
.
It is university policy that a workshop be paid for in full at the time of registration. If you walk the paper registration form into Lifelong Learning, payment will be required immediately. If you submit a workshop request on-line, once the registration is processed, your account on www.mymiami.muohio.edu will reflect the bill and payment must be made. You must pay for the workshop within 10 days AND prior to the first day of the workshop to avoid potential cancellation of your credit workshop registration. However non payment does not assure registration cancellation. Please follow the cancellation policy if you do not plan to attend the workshop.
.
Account information, as well as fees, grades, and other essential details regarding your registration at Miami University can be accessed on-line. To access many Miami University on-line Services, you will need two pieces of information:
1. Unique ID obtained at www.muohio.edu/UniqueIDLookup
2. MUNet password: default password is derived by combining your two (2) digit birth month, two (2) digit birth day, followed by the last four (4) digits of your social security number. For example, if your birthday is 1/23/1945 and your social security number is 123-45-6789, then your default password would be 01236789.
.
- If a registration form is mailed, walked in, or faxed to Lifelong Learning for processing, payment must accompany it.
- Lifelong Learning accepts cash, check, VISA, Mastercard, or Discover.
.
- Lifelong Learning accepts cash, check, VISA, Mastercard, or Discover.

Go to "Student Services and Financial Aid", "Student Records", Account Summary by Term", select current term from the drop down list, "Submit", and after viewing your bill, "Make a Payment" using Mastercard, Diners Club, Discover or American Express or by entering your checking account information.

301 S. Campus Ave.
Oxford, OH 45056
Phone: 513-529-8744
.
If no payment is made within 10 days, your registration to the workshop may be cancelled. However to assure no fee obligation, please follow the cancellation policy if you do not plan on attending.
.
Refund policy:
You can withdraw by the end of the business day before the workshop begins to receive a refund of registration tuition fees paid, however, any administrative fees are NON-REFUNDABLE. After the workshop begins, no fees are refunded. You must officially withdraw by 4:30 p.m. on the business day before the workshop begins. The withdrawal must be accomplished through the Lifelong Learning in McGuffey Hall, Miami University, Oxford, or by calling, (513)529-8600.
No grade vs. W grade:
if a student withdrawals from a workshop prior to the start date, the student will not receive a grade for that workshop on their transcript. If the student wishes to withdrawal from a workshop after the workshop start date, Lifelong Learning requires approval of the workshop director to process a student drop request. Upon withdrawal, the student will receive a W grade. A grade of W means that the registration for the workshop still shows on the student record, the W shows on the student transcript, but the W does not affect the student's GPA.
.
If your workshop cancels, the workshop director will contact you. Your registration will also be cancelled and a credit will go back to the bursar's account. If you are set up for direct deposit, then a credit will go to your checking account, otherwise a check will be issued. This process could take up to a month to receive the refund.

Graduate Course Credit: If not already admitted to the university, credit workshop admission is only applicable for credit workshops offered through Lifelong Learning. A bachelor's degree is required to receive graduate credit for a workshop. No more than eight of the most recent graduate hours earned on Workshop or Continuing Graduate non-degree Standing (CGS) can be applied toward a graduate degree, and then only with the approval of the department.
