Thematic Sequence Policies
Minors Counting for Thematic Sequences

Approved by Liberal Education Council
October 12, 2004
Approved by University Senate November 15, 2004

Any minor may be used in place of the Miami Plan Thematic Sequence requirement if:

  • the minor is outside the student's department of major; and
  • at least 9 hours of coursework required in the minor is outside the student's department of major; and
  • at least 6 of these 9 hours are at the 200-level or above.

NOTE: Students who entered Miami prior to Fall 2005 must contact the Commencement Office, 106 Campus Avenue Building, to have a minor count for the Thematic Sequence requirement. This can be done at the time of application for graduation.

Students should check with department and/or divisional requirements for possible restrictions to this policy.

Students with majors in two different academic departments are also exempt from the Thematic Sequence requirement.
