Students investigate roles played by media in building and maintaining social networks, communities and identities.

Biotechnology: Coming of Age in the Twenty-First Century

Students learn about ancient biotechnology and the scientific discoveries leading to the DNA revolution, recombinant DNA technologies, and genetic engineering methods - new developments, commercial applications, and ethical, legal and social issues.

     

ENG F110

Coming Of Age In America

This course uses students' experiences as well as stories, novels, film, TV, and music to explore what it means to "come of age" both historically and in the 21st century America, crossing lines drawn by culture, gender, race, and sexual orientation.

Femininity, Feminism and Culture

Using excerpts from film and video, we will look at the ways in which media contributes to constructions of what we consider to be feminine.

Earth, History, and Evolution Geology

Students explore the historical geology of our planet and the development of geologic thought. The focus is on changing scientific/societal views regarding the evolution of the Earth and it's life forms through time.

American Places

The seminar explores American places, across time and space, and examines the complex diversity of the American people in light of writings about place by American authors, from the 16th century through 2004.

Coffee is an ideal vehicle through which to study key aspects of European, American, and non-western development.

Engaging Real World

Students engage in guided self-reflection on "significant learning experiences," examine literature about the inter-play of intellectual, social, and emotional learning, and critically analyze contemporary issues.

     

THE F102

The Element Of Power In Performance

The class focuses on various points of view of power physics, ethics, polity and sociology. Students will create short plays that illustrate the fundamental nature of power.
