Assessing Critical Thinking (ACT) Project

Dr. Diana-Marie Spillman, Associate Professor, Dept. of Physical Education, Health, and Sport Studies
(ACT I, Spring, 2005; ACT II, Fall, 2005)

Dr. Spillman developed a rubric to assess a paper written by her students in PHS 407, Food and Nutrition for the Aging.  She found that beginning with the course objectives and then breaking them down into smaller steps to see where critical thinking was important was an essential part of the process of the developing the rubric.  She also found that receiving feedback from her learning community partners was a valuable resource.
