470/570: Service-Oriented Architectures and Web
Services
In this course, students were required
to write a paper that compared alternative web
service technologies. Specifically, the students
were asked to compare two competing technologies
that are on the forefront of a debate between
the direction in which web service implementations
should head.
This assignment was an extension of other topics
and learning activities that students had been
exposed to in the course. When the assignment
was provided to the students, a copy of the rubric
was distributed and discussed
directly with the students.
|
The assignments in the course were
evaluated using a 1-4 scale. (See rubric.) The
rubric was designed so that a grade of 4 was representative
of the level of expertise that should be demonstrated
by a graduating senior.
The data seem to show that students can identify
problems and describe the context, but that the
formation of the ideas, the support of those ideas,
and the development of solid conclusions are still
moderately weak or still in need of work. Dr.
Gannod believes that to really understand this
data, it may be worthwhile to perform a similar
analysis across several senior-level CSA courses
to determine level of achievement.
