Assessing Critical Thinking (ACT) Project

Dr. Neil Danielson, Professor, Chemistry and Biochemistry
(ACT I, Spring, 2005)

Dr. Danielson created rubrics for the midterm and final papers in the capstone course CHM 491, Chemistry in Societal Issues.  Students in the course were senior chemistry majors.  He found that the rubrics were helpful in ensuring the papers were evaluated more consistently on important topics.  Also, he found that the expectations for the papers were clearer to the students because he provided the rubrics to them in advance.
