Ms. Jill Courte, Assistant Professor, Department
of Computer and Information Technology
(ACT I, Spring, 2005)
 |
Ms. Courte created
two critical thinking rubrics to assess group
projects in her CSA 151, Computers, Computer Science,
and Society course. The groups are given
a scenario involving a small agricultural society
which has by their own choice limited contact
with technology for the last 50 years. The
members of the community have now voted to reenter
the technological world. Students work in
groups to develop a plan for the transition of
the community. Students were provided the
rubrics (one for the group component and one for
the individual component) as they began the project.
She struggled with how to provide examples of
the critical thinking traits she wanted the students
to exhibit without stifling the creativity of
their solutions. She looks forward to continuing
to improve the rubric so that it better communicates
her expectations to her students. |
