Launching Constructivism: Celebrations And Challenges | International Congress on Personal Construct Psychology | Columbus, Ohio | July 17-22, 2005
Overview of Congress Program
The Congress will have Keynote Addresses associated with both purposes of the Congress. First, Dr. Franz Epting, Professor Emeritus at the University of Florida will present a paper based upon a biography of Kelly that he is writing. Second, internationally known scholars Kenneth Gergen and Aaron Beck will present on the relationship of constructivist thought to their ideas as well as the challenges facing the field today. In addition, there will be ample room for symposia and workshops, as well as other major addresses. Some being scheduled include a personal constructivist understanding of the sexual abuse scandal in the Catholic Church by Paul Dokecki of Vanderbilt as well as approaches to peace making by Liz Thomson and Devorah Kalekin-Fishman.
The Congress will begin with a full day of presentations on Monday, July 18, including Epting’s Keynote Address Monday morning. Monday evening, the Ohio State University’s Department of Psychology will host a wine and cheese reception for Congress attendees. After another full day of presentations on Tuesday, attendees are invited to a picnic dinner at the Holiday Inn on the Lane. Wednesday is the traditional half-day of the Congress leaving participants free to explore aspects of Columbus Wednesday afternoon. We are lining up four possible outings for people at this time. The “Short North” (relatively close to the hotel) is an exciting artistic center in Columbus, complete with interesting restaurants and fun pubs. The German Village (and brewery district) allows many visitors to get in touch with their German heritage (or, if you’re not German, the “inner German” in all of us!). The third outing, to COSI, allows us to se one of the most exciting museums in Science and Industry in the world. Finally, for those interested in the George Kelly celebration aspect of the Congress, there will be a trip through the two homes Kelly owned while here (one of which he designed himself) as well as a stop at his grave. Thursday has another full day of presentations followed by the Banquet at the Ohio State Faculty Club http://www.ohio-statefacultyclub. Friday concludes the Congress presentations.
