The 2009 Junior Scholars Program
Information on Residence and Co-Curricular Programs
While attending Miami University as a Junior Scholar, you will be residing in
an air-conditioned residence hall located with convenient access to both
academic and recreational facilities. All rooms are provided with the basic
essentials- beds, desks, chairs, study lamps, dressers, mirrors, cable TV jack, and a telephone.
You should provide your own towels, pillow, and bed linens. Every dorm room now has both an internet jack
and Wi-Fi. In fact, every room in every building has Wi-Fi!! You may want to
bring an alarm clock, stereo, or any other items that will help you feel at
home. All meals will be provided in a dining hall near your residence. Some
Scholars bring bicycles for transportation to and from classes, but automobiles
are not permitted.
The residence hall environment is designed to compliment
the academic course work of the Junior Scholars. In addition to regular
university classes, each Scholar is expected to attend a limited number of
specially planned seminars. A full schedule of social and recreational
activities will also be available. Scholars and staff participate in
recreational sports, field trips to nearby places of interest, picnics, and
dances. Parents are invited to attend a "Parents Weekend" to share
in their Scholar's experience.
As far as possible, the Junior Scholars will be treated as
regular college students, with standard University policies and regulations in
force. Each Scholar is held responsible for his or her behavior and, within
limits, given the freedom to exercise good judgment. Reasonable measures are
taken by the staff of the hall and the University Police to insure the safety
and security of the Junior Scholars.
