Drinking on campus remains a fact of college life. Still, most college administrators have grown increasingly concerned in recent years about the amount of drinking that is taking place and the dangerous consequences that can result. Here at Miami University, President David Hodge has publicly called the issue a “vexing problem.” During fall semester 2006, eight journalism and mass communication students wrote and produced the video documentary “Restoring Honor: A Campus and Community Response.” The project examines the culture of drinking at Miami and addresses problems and potential solutions. Restoring Honor was produced by Jennifer Cahill, Steve Centofanti, Kristin Cuddihy, Jed DeMuesy, Meghan Shuffelton, David Spunt, Andrew Strack and Amanda Van Doorn. Joe Sampson: Instructor In May 2007, these students received the Miami University Journalism Program’s Michael Kelly scholarship for their work on the project. The Kelly Award recognizes outstanding student achievement in professional and ethical journalism. With funding from the Miami University Parents Council, this video project was viewed and discussed in Miami University residence halls during the 2007-08 school year as part of Office of Resident Life continuing alcohol education programming.
