4) Thinking About Internships?
When you begin your job search, it may be useful to have completed an internship. Many students think that they'll have to choose between an internship and studying abroad, but the fact is, you may be able to combine them! Several study abroad providers offer study-internships, where you take classes and complete an internship at the same time. It is up to each department to decide whether they will accept an internship as credit toward your graduation requirements, so talk to your academic adviser if you're considering this option! A study abroad adviser can help you to find a study-internship program.
If you're interested in doing a professional internship for the experience rather than for academic credit, please contact the Office of Career Services. They have many great resources on internships at home and abroad and will be holding their Spring Internship & Career Expo (Spring ICE) on February 20. See http://www.units.muohio.edu/careers/students/ for more information.
5) Parents' Page
Did you know that we now have a page on our website just for the parents of study abroad students? If you think you might study abroad and you would like to get your parents involved, you can send them the address, http://www.units.muohio.edu/internationalprograms/parents.php. If your parents would like to subscribe to this newsletter to keep apprised of study abroad news, they can subscribe at http://www.units.muohio.edu/internationalprograms/sa-newsletter.php.
6) Featured Study Abroad Program of the Month: The American University in Cairo
If you're looking for an English-language institution, you may automatically think of England, or maybe even Ireland, Australia or New Zealand. But English-language institutions can be found even in countries where English is not the native language!
For an amazing and different study abroad experience, you might want to try Egypt! The American University in Cairo is an English-language institution offering a full range of courses including Business, Engineering and Science offerings in addition to Humanities and Social Science offerings such as Anthropology, Arabic language, Art, Journalism, Middle Eastern Studies, Philosophy or Psychology. You can find a full list of subject areas here: http://www.aucegypt.edu/academics/undergradprog/majorsminors/Pages/default.aspx. Students can choose between the traditional liberal arts track or an Intensive Arabic program, which focuses only on the language.
American University of Cairo is also a Co-Sponsored program, meaning that you can apply most of your Miami scholarships and all of your federal financial aid to the program.
