If you will be studying abroad for Fall 2007 or Academic Year 2007-08, please turn your forms in before the end of the semester!  We can only invite you to our orientation session (see "Upcoming Events" above) if we know you're studying abroad next semester, and we only know if you're studying abroad next semester when we get your Study Abroad Declaration Form.  If you don't have one already, you can download our Steps to Studying Abroad checklist and the Study Abroad Declaration form here:

If you have friends who will be abroad next semester, please pass the word on!

5) Study Abroad for Minority Students

The Daily Tarheel (University of North Carolina student newspaper) has an interesting story about ethnic minority students and studying abroad, available online at http://media.www.dailytarheel.com/media/storage/paper885/news/2007/03/26/University/Student.Creates.Cultural.Study.Abroad.Web.Site-2790698.shtml.  A student in the article created a website (http://studyabroad.unc.edu/icams/) catering specifically to the study abroad needs and concerns of minority students.  If you have questions or concerns about how minority status (ethnic or otherwise) may affect your study abroad experience or want to know more about special scholarship opportunities available, please contact a study abroad advisor.

6) Meet a Study Abroad Adviser

Did you know that you can meet with a study abroad adviser or a returned study abroad student at any point in your study abroad search process?  You can either set up an appointment (to be sure that we'll be here and ready for you) or drop by.  Whether you have a program in mind or you're just starting out and not sure what you want to study or where you want to go, a study abroad adviser can help guide you.  To contact a study abroad adviser, see http://www.muohio.edu/international/about.php#sa-staff

7) Featured Study Abroad Program of the Month

"If you are intimidated by the thought of going to the Middle East because of conflicts in the region, you may be pleasantly surprised to find Jordan is a moderate, stable, peaceful nation whose people welcome international students."
- IIEPassport:  http://info.iiepassport.org/country/jordan.html

CIEE's program in Amman, Jordan offers students the opportunity to take various area studies courses (Archaeology, Economics, International Relations, Religion) in addition to beginning to advanced Arabic-language study offered through the University of Jordan.  Internships and volunteer options may also be available, depending on a student's language level.  The program offers guest lecturers and travel opportunities including organized field trips and independent travel.  Students may have the option of living in an apartment or in a homestay with a Jordanian family.
