Social Security

In order to apply for your social security number, you first need to have a job on campus. This may be an assistantship for graduate students or a variety of other jobs on campus including office workers, dining hall workers, tutors, etc.

If you are interested in obtaining a job, you may:

  1. Visit the Financial Aid office in the Campus Avenue Building (CAB) to see the "job board" - a posting of positions on campus;
  2. See the manager in the department where you wish to work;
  3. Go to https://www.admin.muohio.edu/cfapps/studentemployment/job_list.cfm for a listing of student positions available.

When you have obtained a job, have your manager write and sign a short memo on letterhead stationary stating your name, your position, and where you will be working. Take your letter of employment to Wynona Little in 216 MacMillan Hall and she will use it to complete a letter of enrollment and employment approval for the Social Security Office.

You will need to have the following items to complete the application process:

  • Letter from manager
  • Letter from OIE
  • Your immigration documents (passport, visa, I‐94 card, and I‐20)
  • A completed Social Security application (available in 216 MacMillan)

You will need to apply for your social security number at the Social Security office, which is located in Hamilton, OH about 40 minutes away from campus (6553 Winford Ave., Hamilton, OH 45011).
