Funding
If you can afford to study at Miami, we can help you find a study abroad program that is within your budget. There are a wide range of study abroad programs available to Miami students, and these vary greatly in cost. Some programs cost less than a semester at Miami, some are the same and some cost more. Remember that transportation to your host country and traveling in the area may be additional costs to take into account, and that the cost of living may be different in the country you're going to. If you are concerned about paying for your study abroad experience, please talk to a study abroad adviser.
Choosing a Program
If you are still planning your study abroad experience, remember that timing may be important. Depending on your financial situation, it may make more sense to study abroad during the semester (replacing a semester you would have taken at Miami) rather than adding on a summer program fee. On the other hand, if you pay for your education by working during the semester, you may not have access to these opportunities while studying abroad.
You may want to choose a Sponsored, Exchange or Co-Sponsored program so that you can use some or all of your Miami scholarships toward your study abroad program's fees. However, there are cases where programs that are not Scholarship-Eligible are less expensive than those that are. Talk to a study abroad adviser about your financial needs and we will do our best to find a program that will work for you.
Federal Aid
The federal financial aid you receive is applicable to any study abroad program for which Miami accepts credit. If you think that you will be using federal financial aid, you should file a FAFSA and talk to the Office of Student Financial Assistance.

Many scholarships are available for studying abroad. You may even be able to apply your Miami scholarships to your study abroad program (check with a study abroad adviser to see if this is possible for your chosen program). If you have scholarships that fund a large portion of your tuition, remember that your Miami scholarships can be used on Sponsored, Exchange or Co-Sponsored programs. You can find these programs within the country pages on our Program Selection page. Please know that the OLS/ORS tuition reduction for Ohio residents cannot be applied to Co-Sponsored programs.
Our office has compiled a list of scholarship sources: Miami-based as well as frequently-used external scholarship sources. See Study Abroad Scholarships.
