Water is our most critical natural resource. Water-quantity crises loom in many parts of the world, and conflicts over its use are increasingly common between countries and within the United States. Deterioration of water quality, an issue equally important and related to water scarcity, further limits the amount available for consumption, healthy aquatic habitat and recreational use.
